New City is a gospel-centered, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational church in Oakland, California, launched in partnership with Orchard Group and the EFCA.

We exist to help people find and follow Jesus.

At the start of the pandemic, Gabe and Kari Garcia moved to Oakland with a vision to plant a church that would reflect the beauty and diversity of the city and embody the love of Jesus in everyday life. What seemed like an unlikely time to begin (amid shutdowns and uncertainty) became the soil for something deeply rooted.

By January 2021, a core launch team of 13 people began gathering for prayer, discipleship, and community outreach. United by a heart for Oakland, they sought to build relationships and meet real needs, living as a visible expression of God’s love.

In October 2021, we opened our doors to the wider community and officially launched.

Today, we’re still growing—deeper in discipleship, wider in mission—and still committed to truth, justice, evangelism, and church planting. We love seeing what God is doing in and through this community, and would love for you to be part of it!
